Alex Carey had intended to rejoin the Glenelg Football Club after moving to Adelaide, but he later had second thoughts and decided to play professional cricket again with the Glenelg Cricket Club in the 2012–13 season. He started off for Glenelg as a specialist batter, averaging nearly 50 in every category.
